Type locality: Chile, Antofagasta, Quelana.
Lectotype: (designated by Rosas 1989, Gayana Bot. 46: 35): 1885-02-03, R.A. Philippi #s.n. SGO -000001596; Isolectotypes: SGO-000001595, SI -001313 (fragment).

Considered as a synonym of Atriplex imbricata by Múlgura de Romero (1981), but treated as separate species by Rosas (1989) and by Brignone, Denham & Pozner (2016),
