Name

Abelia R.Br., Narr. Journey China 376. (1818)

  • Type species: Abelia chinensis R.Br., Narr. Journey China 376. (1818)

Synonyms

  • Homotypic
    • Linnaea subg. Abelia (R.Br.) Graebn., Bot. Jahrb. Syst. 29: 134. (1900) .
    • Linnaea sect. Abelia (R. Br.) A.Braun & Vatke

Note: This is a traditional view of a monotypic Abelia, once Zabelia is segregated, rejecting the proposal by Christenhusz (2013) to subsume all genera of Linnaeoideae into Linnaea. Wang et al. (2015) point out that Linnaeoideae, as circumscribed here, is composed of monophyletic units, which are best kept separate on the grounds of morphology, biogeography and nomemclatural stability.
