From local Medieval Latin vereda (main road), from Vulgar Latin verēdus (light breed of horse), from Gaulish *werēdos, from Proto-Celtic *uɸorēdos (horse) (compare Welsh gorwydd (horse)). Cognate with Spanish vereda (path).
