uusi
Finnish
Etymology
From Proto-Finnic *uuci, From Proto-Finno-Ugric *wuδ́i. Cognates include Estonian uus, North Sami ođas, Komi-Zyrian выль (vylʹ), Erzya од (od), Moksha од (od) and Hungarian új. Proto-Finnic *uci would actually be expected; the occurring long vowel may reflect the lost initial *w-.
