Etymology
From Proto-Vietic *k-rəŋ (“horn”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *d₂raŋ (“horn”); cognate with Central Vietnamese trừng, Khasi reng (“horn”) and Mon ဂြၚ် (krɛ̀aŋ, “horn, tusk”). Compare also Garo grong, which, according to Blench (2013), presents an Austroasiatic substratum. Cognates ouside of Mon-Khmer include Kharia ɖeɽeŋ, Munda diɾiŋ.
