From a Germanic language, compare Old Norse reitr ("marked-out space; square") and Icelandic reitur ("plot (of land)", "lot"). Compare Icelandic and Old Norse reið (“ride”), from Proto-Germanic *raidō, whence Finnish raita, raide.
