Etymology
From Middle French roustir, from Old French rostir, from Frankish *rōstjan (“to roast”), from Proto-Germanic *raustijaną (“to roast”), from Proto-Indo-European *reus- (“to crackle, roast”). Germanic cognates include Old High German rōsten. Compare Italian arrostire and Spanish rostir.
