Etymology
From Proto-Mon-Khmer *lpŋaaʔ, an infixed form of Proto-Mon-Khmer *lŋaaʔ (“itch”); cognate with Muong ngạ, Koho lönga (“itching between toes”) and Khmu ŋaʔ. Compare also Nghệ An/Hà Tĩnh dialects ngá.
