Etymology

Uncertain. Compare Italian nastro. Possibly from a Latin root *nastula, from Ancient Greek, or alternatively borrowed from the Italian word, originally in a form *nastru, with a plural *nastruri, with the loss of the first 'r' and made singular analogically later.
