nữ hoàng

Vietnamese

Etymology

Sino-Vietnamese word from 女皇 (“empress regnant.”). The “imperial” connotation of hoàng has been lost due to its favorability over vương; compare hoàng hậu (queen consort, literally empress regnant), hoàng tử (royal prince, literally imperial prince).
