nữ hoàng
Vietnamese
Etymology
Sino-Vietnamese word from 女皇 (“empress regnant.”). The “imperial” connotation of hoàng has been lost due to its favorability over vương; compare hoàng hậu (“queen consort”, literally “empress regnant”), hoàng tử (“royal prince”, literally “imperial prince”).
