Borrowed from Yiddish משוגעת‎ (meshugas), from משוגע‎ (meshuge, “crazy”), from Hebrew משוגע‎ (meshugga`, “crazy”), from שׁוּגַּע‎ (shugga‘, “be driven mad”), שִׁיגַּע‎ (shigga‘, “drive mad”).
