From Proto-Albanian * ̊(V)pi, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁(e)pi, *h₁opi 'up, on, upon (on-to, un-to)'. Cognate to Ancient Greek ἐπί (epí, “on, to, towards”). A compound of *h₂en-h₁(e/o)pi.
