Alternative forms
- ma-nhê
Etymology
Perhaps borrowed from French magnésium. This awkward spelling is devised by the Ministry of Education and Formation to conform with the chemical symbol Mg. Some chemistry teachers (and consequently, their students) still prefer the French-derived pronunciation ma-nhê regardless of the spelling.
