From Ancient Greek λειπογγράμμα (leipongrámma), from λείπω (leípō, “leaving out”) + γράμμα (grámma, “letter”), 18th c.

- (literature) A word or writing that does not use a particular symbol or symbols.
- "transubstantiationalists" is a particularly long lipogram, not using the letter "e"
