Etymology
From an unattested *lënd < *lenta (cf. lëndë), from Proto-Indo-European *lento- (“bendsome, resilient”). Akin to Lithuanian leñtas (“still, quite”), Latin lentus (“supple”), English lithe (“supple”), Danish and German lind (“mild”). Possibly a nasal variant of ledh 'to caress, stroke'.
