From Proto-Finnic [Term?], either from Proto-Germanic *hauhaz, or from Proto-Finno-Ugric [Term?]. Compare Erzya [script needed] (kuvaka, long, lengthy) and Khanty [script needed] (χŏw, faraway, long). Cognate to Finnish kaukainen and Votic kaukaa.
