Etymology
From Old French gesir, from Latin jacēre, iacēre, present active infinitive of iaceō, from Proto-Italic *jakēō. Cognate with Italian giacere, Spanish yacer.

Usage notes
The circumflex on the ‘i‘ in the third-person singular present indicative has been optional since the 1990 French spelling reforms; see git.
Conjugation
This is a defective verb, and is only conjugated in the present and imperfect indicative. This verb is impersonal and is conjugated only in the third-person singular.
