From Middle Irish fogamur (harvest), from Old Irish fogamar, fogomur, from Proto-Celtic *uɸo-giamur (under winter), from *uɸo- (under) + *giamur (winter). Akin to geimhreadh. Cognate with Welsh cynauaf. Compare Scottish Gaelic foghar, Manx fouyr.
