From Proto-Slavic *dikъ (wild animal, esp. wild boar), from Proto-Indo-European *dʰiHkos. Cognate to Lithuanian dỹkas, Latvian dīks, Proto-Albanian *dīkā, possibly to Ancient Greek σίκα (síka, pig) (Laconian dialect).
