Related to Persian در (dar). From Proto-Iranian, compare Ossetian дуар (dwar), Avestan dvarǝm), from Proto-Indo-Iranian (compare Sanskrit द्वार (dvā́ra), Hindustani द्वार (dvār) / دوار (dvār)), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *dʰwer- (“gate, door”). Other cognates include English door, German Tür, Armenian դուռ (duṙ), Irish doras and Russian дверь (dver’).
