From Middle French désaroy (“disorder”), from Old French desroi, desrei (“disorder, confusion, tumult”), from des- + a base of Germanic origin, probably from Gothic 𐌲𐌰𐍂𐌴𐌳𐌰𐌽 (garedan, “to order, arrange”). More at deray, array, ready.
