From *beriwill, compound of Proto-Albanian *bōrei (gen.-dat. sg.) ‘bow’ and *ulnā ‘forearm’. More at ber and llërë. For sense development, compare English elbow, compound of ellell’, originally ‘forearm’, and bow.
