Unknown. It has been suggested that it is from Arabic نَزِير‎ (nazīr, “rare, trivial”), but if it is Arabic, perhaps more likely would be نَذِير‎ (naḏīr, “auspicious, boding well (?)”) Represents the word 'rare' in Hebrew.
