Margate fish
English
Noun
Margate fish (plural Margate fishes)
- An edible fish, a grunt (Haemulon album), of the west Atlantic
Usage notes
A misreading of an early reference caused this name to me wrongly applied to Haemulon aurolineatum, the tomtate, in a few dictionaries and other reference works, but this apparently never made it into actual usage.
