Hobel
See also: hobel
German
Etymology
From Middle High German hobel, hovel, from Old High German hubil. In spite of its old attestation, the word was originally rare in High German and seems to have spread from the North. It may therefore have been borrowed from Old Saxon, or reinforced by later Middle Low German forms. Pertaining to Hübel (“bump”). It is not clear whether the noun Hobel was derived from the verb hobeln or vice versa.
