Etymology
From Vulgar Latin *quaresima, from Latin quadrāgēsima (“the fortieth part; Lent”), substantive of quadrāgēsimus (“fortieth”). Compare Portuguese quaresma. Doublet of cuadragésima, which was a borrowing.
