Aleppo gall (plural Aleppo galls)

  1. The gall produced by the leaves of the Aleppo oak, Quercus infectoria, in response to the larvae of a species of gall wasp, Cynips quercusfolii, and which has been harvested for thousands of years as a concentrated source of tannins for use in high-quality inks, in medicine, etc.
