Many, perhaps most, adjectives ending in -и́льный are not formed from verbs but rather are formed by adding the extremely common ending -ный (-nyj) to a word ending in -иль (-ilʹ), -ила (-ila) or -ило (-ilo), or to foreign adjectives:
