Borrowed from Latin -issimus, and partly based on the model of Italian -issimo.

Suffix

-ísimo m (feminine -ísima, plural -ísimos, feminine plural -ísimas)

  1. Added to adjectives to form the absolute superlative.
  2. Added to adverbs to form the superlative.
    lejos (“far”) + ‎-ísimo → ‎lejísimo (“very far”)
    tarde (“late”) + ‎-ísimo → ‎tardísimo (“very late”))
