First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄭᅮᆷ (skwum), from ᄭᅮ— (skwu-, “to dream”) (modern 꾸— (kku)) + —ㅁ (-m, substantive suffix).
