1. part-time job, especially for students (as opposed to one's main occupation when it is only part time)

   管理職 (かんりしょく)だった男 (だん)性 (せい)は５０代 (ごじゅうだい)でリストラに遭 (あ)い、コンビニのアルバイトをするしかなかった。

   Kanrishoku datta dansei wa gojū-dai de risutora ni ai, konbini no arubaito o suru shika nakatta.

   He was part of management, but was laid off after (lit. "had a bad encounter with") a corporate restructuring when he was in his 50s, and had no other choice but to take a part-time job at a convenience store.
