Etymology

From ἄγκος (ánkos, bend). Possibly corresponding to Proto-Indo-European *h₂engulos (joint?). Cognates include Latin angulus, Sanskrit अङ्गुरि (aṅgúri, finger, toe), Old High German enchil (ankle, joint), and Old Church Slavonic ѫгълъ (ǫgŭlŭ, angle). Compare also Old Armenian անգղ (angł).
