From Proto-Tai *haːᶜ (“five”), from Old Chinese 五 (OC *ŋaːʔ, “five”). Cognate with Tai Dam hả, Lao ຫ້າ (hā), Lü ᦠᦱᧉ (ḣaa2), Shan ႁႃႈ (hāa), Thai ห้า (hâa) and Zhuang haj.
