From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *r-kəw ~ hu (“to steal”). Cognate with Burmese ခိုး (hkui:, “to steal”) and Chinese 寇 (OC *kʰoːs, “to rob”). Related to རྐུན་མ (rkun ma, “robber, thief”).
