Borrowed from Pali codaka (one who censures; one who rebukes) or Sanskrit चोदक (codaka, asker; crier; etc). Cognate with Khmer ចោទ (caot), ចោទកៈ (caotkaʾ), ចោទក៍.

Usage notes

  • In the Thai legal system, the term is only used in courts of justice. In administrative courts, an instituting party is called ผู้ฟ้องคดี (literally one who institutes a case). In the Constitutional Court, such a party is known as ผู้ร้อง (literally one who files a petition).
