Etymology

Uncertain. Some say it probably is a corruptuion of โคราฆ, the name of an ancient city-state in the area. Others believe it is a corruption of Old Khmer nagararāja (literally “king of the city”), corresponding to Modern Khmer នគររាជ (nôkôrréach).
