Etymology
From Old Khmer *prāsāda, prāsādda, prāsātra, prāsādha, °prāsāddha, braḥ sādha (“temple or sanctuary having a high pinnacle”); ultimately from Sanskrit प्रासाद (prāsāda, “palace; terrace”). Cognate with Burmese ပြာသာဒ် (prasad), Khmer ប្រាសាទ (praasaat), Lao ຜາສາດ (phā sāt), Mon ပြါသာတ်, and Shan ပျၢတ်ႈသၢတ်ႈ (pjāat sāat). Compare Pali pāsāda (“mansion; palace”).
