Etymology

From Sanskrit छत्र (chatra, parasol); perhaps via Angkorian Old Khmer chatra, chattra° (canopy; parasol; sunshade). Cognate with Modern Khmer ឆត្រ (chɑt); Lao ສັດ (sat). Compare Pali chatta.
