Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *wiḱpótis. Cognate formation to Lithuanian viẽšpats (“lord”), Avestan 𐬬𐬍𐬯𐬞𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (vīspaiti, “chief of a tribe”), Old Prussian waispattin (“mistress of a house”) and probably Albanian zot (“lord, master”).
