Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *mr̥meno-, abstract noun derived from the root *mer- (“to die, decease”). Compare Old Armenian մարմին (marmin, “body”).

- any vital member or organ (compare अन्तर्मर्मन् (antar-marman))
- anything which requires to be kept concealed, secret quality, hidden meaning, any secret or mystery (MBh., Kāv. etc.)
