From Proto-Indo-Iranian *karš-, from Proto-Indo-European *kʷels-. Compare Avestan 𐬐𐬀𐬭𐬱𐬀𐬌𐬙𐬌 (karšaiti), modern Persian کشیدن (kešidan).
