From Maharastri Prakrit 𑀑𑀓𑀟𑁆𑀠 (okaḍḍha, “pulled”), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *avakaḍḍʰati. Related to ओढ (oḍh, “pull, tension”). Cognate with Gujarati ઓડવું (oḍavũ).
