From Old Marathi आसवल (āsavala), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀭𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀙𑀪𑀮𑁆𑀮 (ricchabhalla), from 𑀭𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀙 (riccha) + 𑀪𑀮𑁆𑀮 (bhalla), from Sanskrit ऋक्ष (ṛkṣa) and Sanskrit भल्लूक (bhallūka). Compare with Hindi रीछ (rīch) and Hindi भालू (bhālū). Cognate with Konkani आंस्वेल. Related to Old Marathi रिहस (rihasa).
