From Middle Persian kpwt' (kabōd, “blue-gray; pigeon”), from Old Persian *𐎣𐎱𐎢𐎫 (kapauta-, “pigeon”), from Proto-Iranian [Term?], from Proto-Indo-Iranian [Term?]. Akin to Sanskrit कपोत (kapota, “the grey colour of pigeon”), Baluchi کپوت, and Old Armenian կապոյտ (kapoyt), an Iranian borrowing.
