From Middle Persian kʾlpwt' (kālbod, body, shape, form), from Ancient Greek καλοπόδιον (kalopódion, shoemaker’s last). Akin to Manichaean Middle Persian kʾlbyd (kālbid) and Old Armenian կաղապար (kałapar), գաղափար (gałapʿar), Iranian loanwords.
