Reborrowed from Arabic قَبَاء (qabāʾ), from Middle Persian kpʾh (kabāh, “garment, cloak”). Ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *(s)kep- (“to split, cut”). Cognate to Khotanese khapa (khapa, “dress”). Perhaps cognate with Latin cappa (“cape”).
