From Middle Persian (ʾ)sym ((a)sēm), from Ancient Greek ἄσημον (ásēmon, “silverware”), neutral form of ἄσημος (ásēmos, “pure, unmarked”). Akin to Parthian hsym (hasēm, “silver”), Bactrian σιμινο (simino, “made of silver, silverware”).
