From Middle Persian rāhnāmag, from lʾs (rāh, “way”) + MGLTA, nʾmk' (nāmag, “book”). Whence also Arabic رَاهْنَامَج (rāhnāmaj), رَهْنَامَج (rahnāmaj), a Middle Persian borrowing.
