جَهِلَ (jahila) I, non-past يَجْهَلُ‎ (yajhalu)

  1. to ignore, be ignorant, be stupid, be brutal
    • c. 1150, Al-Ghazali, The Revival of Religious Sciences
      وَ مَنْ جَهِلَ قَلْبَهُ فَهُوَ بِغَيِرِهِ أَجْهَلُ
      wa man jahila qalbahu fahuwa biḡayirihi ʾajhalu
      And whoever ignores his own heart is most ignorant of the rest (of his affairs)
  2. show oneself ignorant (عَلَى (ʿalā) in)
