- In Modern Hebrew, the letter ס (s) is nearly always pronounced /s/; however, there are a few words and names with a /z/ sound that are nonetheless sometimes written with a ס instead of a ז (z); examples include מוזיקה \ מוסיקה (múzika, “music”) and פריז \ פריס (paríz, “Paris”).
